Symposium Links to Carnegie Exhibit

"Storytelling: Playful Interactions and Spaces of Imagination in Contemporary Visual Culture"

In collaboration with the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Film Studies department at Pitt, the HAA graduate students present a symposium that ties in themes from Life on Mars, the 55th Carnegie International. The symposium will take place October 10-12, 2008. Cristina Albu offers details about the upcoming event and her take on the theme.

Summer Research

Students Awarded Travel Funding

More than a dozen HAA graduate students received funding for summer study this year. Students traveled to Italy, China, Sweden, Japan, France, and other areas around the world. See what they accomplished.

Studying Saints, Spain and Structures

Research at Santiago de Compostela

Courtney S. Long recounts her summer exploration of Santiago de Compostela, a medieval pilgrimage church in Spain. With fellow student Sarah Bromberg and faculty members Alison Stones and John Williams, Long explored the site and gained valuable knowledge for her individual research projects. New Students Arrive at Pitt

This fall, the department welcomes six new graduate students: Stephen D'Andrea, Lihui Dong, Izabel Galliera, Jung Hui Kim, Rachel Miller, and Aaron Tacinelli. Get to know your new classmates.

Fellowships

Graduate students are encouraged to explore fellowship opportunities early and often in their career. Several online HAA resources are available, including an extensive directory. Application deadlines for fellowships that require departmental nomination have been announced and all students are responsible for this information.  View a list of recent fellowship awardees.
